Spring Anime 2009: First Impressions.

Posted by Honoo on April 22, 2009

Okay, I know I’m somewhat late compared to the other bloggers who might have their Spring lists given their first impressions. And right now since I somehow neglected a night’s worth of beauty sleep just to go to the main campus’s library with a friend, I’ll have to muster everything I have in mind, impromptu; and tell some “tales” for this season’s 2009 anime.

So my watchlist here isn’t really valid, as I picked them all up and watched them all within my own pacing and choice, some shows I don’t intend to pick up does get picked up (K-On!), stuff I’m in doubt gets picked up (Tears To Tiara), stuff I put it in my watchlist earlier but got dropped but quickly regained its place in my watchlist; blah blah blah blah. Okay time to get this over quick; SHOOTAN TAIMU.

Asura Cryin’

Said anime managed to fulfill what I wanted to see from it so far, quite a good watch and overall I am not disappointed by it. Also I see Full Metal Panic! next to this albeit the fact it’s a different story altogether, with Natsume marking his start towards a harem (yes, ghostly girl included), and man Kurosaki-sempai wasn’t a normal human after all (revealing GUNS! HIDDEN! IN! HER! LIMBS!)!? I wonder how Natsume is going to endure one night with her– ehem, just for jokes. And Kanade’s oppai… Kanade’s oppai! A bit too big for my liking. As expected, Kurosaki-sempai is the best – wait, is she a frickin’ robot or something? TL;DR will keep on watching this.

Pandora Hearts

Music was awesome, however even if this is a gothic-centered animu the use of colors is still a bit too dull, I see they’re taking things slowly as I recall the whole timeline Oz getting screwed and thrown into the abyss and then getting out from it is quite fast in the manga or I think it’s just me, other than that, storywise I’ll have to refer to the manga, I’m in some sort of an “amnesia” mode and can’t remember much, and my brains demand that I sleep but I can’t until I get out from this frickin’ library to go back to the dorms and sleep etc. TL;DR this is a series of a collection item.

Tayutama ~Kiss On My Deity~

I hate admitting that I kept on staring over Mashiro’s adult form over and over and over AND OVER on the screen, blonde-haired character (I can’t recall who and don’t want t0) looks good that I want to ship her with the main exorcist dude whose role as an exorcist is something I haven’t really had much to hear from ever since I heard of (but didn’t watch) Shounen Onmyoji, but character designs are too cute-centered (not even the blondie can be forgiven) that it kinda puts me off a little, but can’t be helped since its origin looks like that so yea.

Natsu no Arashi!

Have read the manga a bit, character designs doesn’t feel good a bit (Sukuran looks better) and heck, even the main spectacles-dude looks better in the manga, became another Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (with the first other being Maria+Holic), YUKKURI SPOTTED etc, Kenji and Tenma finally going out? etc, period. Basically I saw random stuff as well as time-surfing.

Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica Crimson S

First decided to drop this from my initial plans of watching it, but to be honest, TrueForm!Corti made me want to watch this show. Seriously TrueForm!Corti looks quite a dozen times better than the original series before this one. Keeping on watch just for collections.

Tears To Tiara

Adaptation from ero-geimu, some people dub it as this season’s Utawarerumono, OK impression at least, and damn the archer looks damn sexy I think if I were ever to play the game, I’ll go on her route just to SCREW HER. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Since I’ll get a glimpse of her in ep 2, I’d better rush on getting this.

K-On!

I just couldn’t get why people are getting so hyped over this series which, like Lucky Star, originated from a freakin’ 4koma manga… also this “MIO MIO MIO MOE” stuff, just doesn’t get to me. Reminder: I don’t watch the series for only the moe. If it’s all the “moe” this show relies on – then I think it’ll be hard for me to accept the very existence of the hype itself (although obliteration of it is not something that I have powers for). My impressions? It’s just OK, nothing special, I believe some other KyoAni series were even more LOLSOME than this. But, Yui does remind me of how I often forget things, not to mention that she doesn’t study for her exams much like how I don’t study for my exams.

Mio doesn’t look anything special for me, and I can pretty much say whatever holds Kagami (Lucky Star) as the gem for her fans, is what holds Mio as her fan’s gem. Or at least that’s how I think.

I’ll keep this on watch to see what will happen to the hypewave. Some dudes I know (Steno, linkinstreet) already expressed their opinion on this.
