Okay, so here I went and bought this manga: Shinseiki Evangelion – Ikari Shinji Ikusei Keikaku (Neon Genesis Evangelion – Ikari Shinji Raising Project) in it’s original language – the Japanese release.Long story short, this manga is a spin-off from the original Neon Genesis Evangelion, and here we get:
- An alternate universe similar to what Shinji envisioned in the 26th episode of the manga
- Shinji of this manga is less “dorky” than the original, and what’s more, HE WINS A WHOLE HAREM OF GIRLS.
- Asuka is not as bitchy as the original and is Shinji’s childhood friend in this version, though she does whacks Shinji out of embarassment at any rate given.
- Rei is a transfer student and unlike the original counterpart this Rei Ayanami have feelings, so whenever she reacts to Shinji’s actions in rabu-rabu (love-love) mode… OMG KORE GA SAIKOOO DAAAAAAAAAA (and so there goes my Shinji’s haremu fanboy mode again on full throttle…)
- Shinji’s mom, Yui, is alive! YEAY! The one who moderates Gendou’s (the damn daddy) behaviors, heheh. Also, Asuka’s mom is still alive too.
- Gendou Ikari’s is a perfect contrast in this manga. From a dad who doesn’t care about his own son at any percentage, he turns into an over-loving dad and there’s this “father-vs-son” thingy you get to see… in a comical sense. Also one of the main LOLZ of the manga I guess…
- The plugsuit somehow serves as a part of the series’ eyecandies, in which the characters reacted with their first time seeing a plug suit in shock, and thought Gendou was forcing a weird cosplay on Rei. LOLWUT. (Heck, he even tried to force Shinji into girl’s one-piece swimwear and managed to do it!)
Better make your pick, Shinji. Hehehehe.
I’d say, I’ve been hooked with this manga ever since the pilot chapter. Guys, this is what happens if you do NGE in a comedy romance style. Okay, for you guys who want all the action and adrenaline rush… forget this manga if you don’t like it, it’s easy.
I directly bought Volume 5 and I just found out that the Japanese release have been only up till that volume. So that means I’m in sync with the whole story then. I guess only time and money tells whether I’ll get to see the 6th volume in full or not.
Now for some MMM YUMMY previews. The last two pages of the manga suggest that there’s going to be a fourth character to add into Shinji’s harem, hehehe (damn, why did I include Kaworu Nagisa the gay angel humanoid!?) and from what I’ve been told it’s Mana Kirishima, Shinji’s love interest in NGE’s visual novel game NGE: Iron Maiden. And from what I read it seems it’s going to be out not so late, but when? I’m not so good in Kanji, I hope someone helps me with this.
Rei: “Ikari-kun…” Asuka: “HEY, HE’S OURS! LET HIM GO!” Mana: *sticks tongue* Shinji: “Uh…”
OH! LET THERE BE ZOUNDS! POLYGONS! LOVE TRIANGLES! AND MOAR DEREDERE GOODNESS!
And, yeah guys, from the title of this entry you can easily guess I prefer spin-offs more than the original. Besides, it’s an OFFICIALLY-MADE SPIN-OFF. I can’t get away from that compared to doujinshis, although they are fun to read (although, again, most of them would be H and H and H)
Frankly I almost confused myself between Asuka’s mom and Ritsuko if it weren’t for their hair…
